Siyabonga Drop-In Centre

Background

Siyabonga Drop in Centre is an NPO that was founded by Mrs. P. Makoro in 2008. It was officially registered in 22 January 2010. The NPO Number is 075-167. The organisation caters for 336 Orphans and vulnerable children from 0 to 18 years and 300 children are funded by The Department of Social Development, starting from 1st July 2014.

The development of the community largely depends on how well we look after the young ones, SMPT took an initiative together with the Social Development in ensuring that the children are taken care of through the following programmes;

  • Psychosocial Support - support given to beneficiaries physically and mentally.
  • Educational Support - assisting them with their school work.
  • Support Groups - support for each other will lead to a healthy and strong community.
  • Activities - children learn easily through playing and also participating in other activities such as; playing marimba, music, traditional dance, debates etc.
  • Nutritional Support - no child deserves to go through life without food.

This programme is mostly aimed at assisting vulnerable children in giving them hope and love that they richly deserve.

The programme starts from 14:30PM to 16:00PM, Mondays to Fridays

  •  Our target number is 400 beneficiaries and we managed to reach that number but the challenge is that beneficiaries parents do not want to come to the centre to register their children or to do intake, some parents do not bring all the documents needed for intake, but so far we managed to reach our target and thanks to the caregivers. They have done a great job by doing home visits and identifying children who are in need of our services.
  •  Going back to lunch boxes also contributed a lot in reaching our target.

Challenges

  •  We don’t have enough space for our beneficiaries activities.
  •  We also need more resources for our activities.
